Edie Elkjer: I have spent most of my life involved with music, as a singer, a teacher, and a choir director. It was the latter that led me to writing musicals. As a choir director at St Andrew's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, for fourteen years,I was always on the lookout for fresh, clever musicals. My friend Judy and I decided we could come up with some musicals that we would enjoy producing, and that led to our five original plays that we produced at the school. I am still teaching... this time for Music Together. I also direct a women's choir there.
Judy Beglau: When my musician friend Edie and I started kicking around the idea of writing children's musicals, it was right up my alley. I have spent most of my life making up stories. We had nearly perfect conditions; a strong appreciation of each other's strengths as writers, and a captive audience in the choirs Edie directed. Each year we would produce a musical in the spring that we had written in the fall. The kids loved them, and we enjoyed the whole process. After we finished at St Andrew's school, we wrote a few more for the high school youth group St Martin's Lutheran Church. We hope to have all seven of them on the website as time goes by, so be sure to check back. We are getting the ball rolling with Campus Court!
